Peer-Review Guidelines
What is peer-review? Peer-review is the evaluation of work by one or more people of similar competence to the producers of the work. Peer-review constitutes a form of self-regulation by qualified members of a profession within the relevant field. Peer-review for AEJ means that selected scholarly reviewers in the subject area of English Language Arts will review all articles/materials to be published in AEJ for quality of research and adherence to editorial standards of the journal before articles/materials are accepted for publication. As a researcher and/or educator, if you use articles/materials from peer-reviewed publications you have a confidence level that the articles/materials have been vetted by scholars in the field for quality and importance.
AEJ peer-reviewers are given four weeks to evaluate manuscripts based upon the significance of the piece to our state's ELA educators and clarity of the writing. AEJ peer-reviewers are encouraged to provide evidence for claims and assertions made about the manuscript and provide suggestions for revision; ACTELA strives to follow a peer-review process that is educative for all authors. Additionally, all AEJ peer-reviewers select one of the following recommendations for the manuscript:
